The Annual Report includes information about crime data and trends, but also provides a glimpse into other elements of the Department’s work – from investments in the critical dispatch function to the many ways Piedmont Police work to build stronger connections with the community, including young residents. Featured topics include:

  • 2024 crime trends: Piedmont experienced a decrease in overall reportable offenses in 2024 as compared to 2023 across a broad range of crime categories – most notably robberies, larceny thefts, and assaults. While overall property crime trended down in 2024, an increase in burglaries is a concern.

  • Historical context: Historical data provides important context for PPD. The annual report shows how reported crimes in four categories – robbery, burglary, vehicle theft, and larceny – have varied over the past 17 years.

  • Investing in dispatch: Dispatch acts as the nerve center for our community’s access to public safety services, fielding over 13,000 calls each year for the Police and Fire Departments. In 2024, the City made two critical investments to enhance this function – starting construction on a new 9-1-1 dispatch center and expanding dispatch staffing for the first time since 1978.

  • Connecting with youth: From a dedicated Juvenile Officer to the “Explorer” program, which introduces high school students to the fundamentals of a career in law enforcement, the report highlights some of the ways Piedmont Police work to build connections with young people in our community.
