SOLAR PERMITS

Building permits are issued for the installation of photovaltaic systems. Submit two copies of the plans and supporting documents along with the Solar permit form or available at the Building Department. In addition to the paper copies, submit a pdf of the plans to [email protected].

The fees for those permits are a flat fee set by the City Council to incentivize PV installations, rather than the project cost based fee of a general building permit. There are minor additional project cost based fees mandated by the State of California, so the fees are different for each project. Contact the Building Department for the exact fees for your project. We accept exact cash or check for payment of fees. Currently, credit cards are not accepted. 

The usual processing time for a solar permit is 7-14 days. If you are submitting an Expedited Solar application, those are processed in 3 days or less. See the submittal requirements for the Expedited Solar Permit Application.

Submit two copies of a site and/or floor plan showing the location of the EV chargers and the path of the wiring form the main panel, information o the charger unit and an electrical load calculation for the house along with Solar permit form. There is a load calculation available or you can submit an equivalent calculation.
